Volunteering in the Classroom
Teach Art in Action in the classroom. The curriculum is provided and you can coordinate directly with your teacher to schedule lessons each month. It is best to have 2-3 extra volunteers help with the art lessons on the day.
The Project Cornerstone curriculum and books are provided for the ABC Reader (English classrooms) and Los Dichos (TWBI classrooms). This is a monthly commitment during classroom hours. You can partner up with another parent to deliver the curriculum and make it a bi-monthly work load. You can coordinate directly with your teacher to schedule the time.
Work with you teacher directly to support their needs. Examples of tasks a teacher may require support for are filling tiger folders each week, photocopying or help in the classroom with hands on activities. Coordinate directly with the teacher to support them as needed.
Field trips cannot happen with volunteer support! Chaperones keep the children safe and engaged in the activities on field trips. Sign up to be a chaperone when your child brings home a field trip permission slip.
You can take your class to the garden to explore and learn more than what is provided in the Settle Science curriculum. Coordinate times with Mrs. Settle and your teacher.
Volunteering with flexibility
Coordinate with your teacher to determine the level of support needed. The main role is being a liason between the PTA and the parents in the class. You can also help the teacher organize classroom parties, and special events!
Help the PTA programs run smoothly by leading or supporting a committee. Committees include, but are not limited to Fall Festival, Ice Cream Social, Walk-a-thon, Science Night, Book fair, the WG 5K and more. The support needs range from administrative to day-of hands on work.
The Tiger Cares team helps ensure families in need of essentials are supported with back-to-school items, school uniforms, food drives, holiday gift drives and other living essentials.
Join others a few times a year to help clean-up the campus by picking up trash, collecting student items left around campus, power washing tables, and even spreading mulch around the tree beds. These events are held on the weekend and is a great time to contribute as a family.
Support events like the Ice Cream Social, Fall Festival, the Tree Lighting, Science Night, and more. Help set up tables, sell Tiger apparel, coordinate high school volunteers and event clean up.
It is important that the PTA provides all communications in English and Spanish to be inclusive of the bilingual WGE community. The PTA relies on parents with both English and Spanish language skills to translate communications into Spanish.
