We started the Willow Glen Annual Give Campaign (the “AGC”) in 2009 when severe cutbacks in state funding threatened vital academic, cultural, technical, and physical education programs at the school.  Since then, the AGC has become the PTA’s most efficient fundraising program, generating approximately 34% of annual fundraising.  Our long-term goal is for the AGC to fund over 50% of annual PTA fundraising.

Through fundraising, coordinating, and volunteering, the WGE PTA supports/provides the following Educational and Enrichment Programs:

  • Hands-On Science Labs: Scientists and Engineers from Schmahl Science conduct hands-on workshops in biology, chemistry, earth science, forensic science, mathematics and physics
  • Physical Education: Coach Ray from Little Heroes organizes classroom and recess PE activities
  • Music Instruction: Music lessons provided by Community School of Music and Arts, including a Spring Recital
  • Critical Classroom Enrichment Supplies & Fieldtrips: Classroom teacher stipends for desperately needed classroom supplies as well as fieldtrip funding
  • Art Docent Program: Hands-on art lessons taught by volunteer docents, including ceramic pottery
  • ABC Project Cornerstone: Volunteer docents read children’s literature books and lead classroom activities related to bullying prevention and promoting positive peer interactions on a monthly basis.
  • Los Dichos Project Cornerstone: Spanish-speaking volunteer docents read bilingual children’s literature to build assets with the students and to engage the parents as active members of the school community. “Dichos” are values-based proverbs that are central themes in many of the books and related lessons/activities.
  • Garden: Garden Docents connect with students during lessons on science and life cycles, wild life habitat, nutrition and healthy eating habits, composting, and helpful or harmful insects.
  • Library Support: Funding of new English & Spanish books for the Library
  • Other Educational Programs & Events Staffed By Volunteers: Science Fair and Family Fun Night, Project Cornerstone (monthly docent led anti-bullying program), Garden Projects, and the year end Art Show

Although some state funding has returned, we continue to work hard to raise funds. PTA sponsored programs have proven to be essential to the education of our WGE students.  And based on parent, student, and teacher feedback, the parents, students, and teachers would like the PTA to do more – thus we have to raise more!

This year’s goals are $75,000 and 25% participation.

The PTA funds approximately $150 worth of programs per student per year.  We encourage you to participate at the highest level you can afford.

Your $300 annual contribution …

… is much less than the cost of last year’s pre-school or childcare,
… is a lot less than the cost a year of coffee at Starbucks,
… can be paid in ten monthly installments of just $30,
… doubles to $600 if your company matches gifts to non-profit organizations,
… is a tax deductible donation (at 25% tax bracket the $300 gift really costs only $225),
… is a terrific gift from grandma and grandpa, aunts and uncles, or mom and dad.
