The WGE PTA is proud to sponsor the 2011-2012 Book Review Program. We encourage all students and families to write reviews of interesting books, both fiction and non-fiction. Book reviews will be displayed in the WGE Library. Book reviews can also be published in the Tiger Flyer and this web page, with parental permission for student reviews. By writing book reviews, students will get the opportunity to share their accomplishments and opinions, and their words will inspire others!
Reviewers give books ratings of between 1 and 5 tiger paws. 1 tiger paw (not at all recommended) to 5 tiger paws (very highly recommended).

Book: Magyk, by Angie Sage

Review: This book is about a princess, a soldier, a wizard, and a White Witch. This book is called Magyk. The story begins in the Castle. Go to the North Drawbridge. Ah, look. There's Gringe, the gatekeeper. Fish out a groat and hand it over. Pass Jannit Martin's boatyard. Look, there she is with Nicko and Rupert. But don't linger long. Turn into Wizard Way. See? At the end? That's the Wizard tower. In there is Madam Marcia, the ExtraOrdinary Wizard. The princess is called Jenna. Jenna Heap. On her tenth birthday, her life is changed forever. Marcia comes in. And from that very moment, they are thrust into a wild adventure: to maintain Marcia's status as ExtraOrdinary Wizard, to discover who Boy 412 really is, to stop Dom Daniel from killing Jenna, to save Draggen Island, and to discover who they are all meant to be. Along the way, they meet Stanley, a talking Message Rat, Mad Jack, a rat kidnapper, Maxie, a drooling wolfhound, and Nicko's great-aunt, Aunt Zelda, who makes food like eel puree, and cabbage sandwiches. This is the first is six books (so far), and Angie Sage brings the Castle alive with her Septimus Heap books.

Book: The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein
Rated:
Review: The Giving Tree is a perfect book for all ages and a great story for Thanksgiving. It follows the life of a special boy and a very nice tree. The boy and the tree are very good friends and they like to play together. As the boy grows up he begins to forget how to play so the tree begins to give the boy different gifts the boy can use in his life. The tree gives and gives until it has nothing left. Even with nothing left the tree is happy because it had given the gift of joy the boy. The Giving Tree teaches us the lesson that life is about sharing with others, and if you do so you will be happy too.
